“A new idea is delicate. It can be killed by a sneer or a yawn;
it can be stabbed to death by a quip and worried to death by a frown on the right man's brow.”

more about the new look ovid

Last week we talked about creating personal accounts on Ovid. Once you have a personal account, you may store all your searches, alerts, annotations and projects under the ‘My Workspace’ tab. Ovid now also provides for every user with a personal account to have 50MB to store additional links and files (ie. non-Ovid material) in a ‘My Projects’ space. To see how this might work for you, view the training session ‘Introduction to My Projects/My Workspace’ or link to the ‘My Projects’ FAQ. Currently at Austin Health you are not able to install the toolbar that goes with the ‘My Projects’ feature (requires administrator rights) but the Library is currently talking to the IT department about how we might get around this – we will let you know! If you are outside of the Austin Health network there should be no difficulty in installing the toolbar.

The Cochrane Library has been updated for August, link here to see a list of all new additions.

ringing the changes

There have been so many changes to our online Library resources in the last couple of weeks. We can understand that you might be confused and even frustrated, and apologise. Unfortunately our suppliers do not talk to each other, so probably didn’t know that other publishers/vendors had major interface changes in the pipeline. So not only has there been some major changes with OVID, the Ebsco databases (Cinahl and PsycInfo), Wiley online and the Springer interface also changed in the last week. OVID and Wiley (in particular The Cochrane Library) are still mopping up some glitches after the changes, but hopefully all will be resolved soon! Please let us know if you experience any difficulty with any of the changes and we will attempt to help you sort it out!
